Journal - Most students view siting work as 'a pain in the butt'. How do you feel about it? Is it necessary? When is it appropriate to cite work? What's the importance of it?

I don't mind citing my work as long as its easy to cite. And usually it is. It is necessary to cite your sources all the time because it is wrong to not give somebody credit for their work. And some people get very angry if they don't get credit for something they did. It is always appropriate to cite because you would rather be safe than sorry.

Journal - What is your favorite book, magazine, or publication? Why?

My favorite book is The Hunger Games because it is one of the few books I enjoyed all the way through from beginning to end with no dull parts. It also contained a good message within it to keep fighting till the end no matter what. I also enjoyed all the plot twists and changes that happened during it.

Journal - Do you enjoy writing? What kind of writing do you enjoy? Why is writing an essential skill in life? How will you use this skill in the future?

I only enjoy some writing such as fictional stories and informative essays like the one we're working on. Writing is an essential skill in life because in almost every possible job you can get in the 21st century requires you to write at least minimally somewhere in the course of getting the job or actually working it. I will use this skill in my future for emails to people, essays and somewhere in the jobs I get.

Journal - What is creating an outline for a paper important? Do you think it helps you personally? How would you prefer to outline a paper - pen and paper or an online tool? Is there a different way you know if that would prefer to organize your thoughts?

Creating an outline for a paper is important because you need a backbone for your paper, so you know what you're doing when you write the paper. It does help me personally because then I have a "backbone" to write my paper off of. I prefer an online tool like bubbl.us because it conforms to my learning better. The only other way I can outline a paper is by paper and pencil.

Journal - Tell me about your weekend. Where did you go? What did you do?

This weekend, surprisingly, I actually didn't do much. On a normal weekend I go outside and meet up with friends and go to Walmart or something. But this weekend I just sat at home and was lazy. On Saturday the furthest I walked during the day was to my kitchen. All I really did was eat and play video games. It was a good time because I needed some relaxation.

Journal - Who do you look up to in life? Why? What have they done to help you or guide you?

I look up to my grandfather. He is 85 years old so he has been through a lot. He is a great role model for anyone because of all the great things he has accomplished in his life, such as being in the navy, raising 4 kids and many other things. He has given me many pieces of advice through out my life. He is a person who has guided me to who I am today and I am grateful for that.

Journal - What is good email etiquette and why is it essential in the "real" world? How can having good email etiquette put you ahead?

Good email etiquette is having the ability to write a good email in the correct format and explaining your reason for the email fully and with support. It is essential in the real world because almost every job you could get requires sending an email somewhere along in your line of work. If you have good email etiquette, people will respect you more. They will also do what you ask more often than if you sent a bland email where you blankly state what you want. People will do what you ask more often if you have good etiquette because writing a good etiquette email makes you sound more professional and to the point.

Journal - If there was one big global issue in the world that you could fix, what would it be? A cure for cancer? Save the rain forest? Stop pollution? Think about it and then write about it. Why would you choose that specific issue?

I would try to convince people to stop using substances like tobacco because smoking is one of the top reasons people die. Also, many people think smoking is nasty and should be stopped. Many other people can be affected by just one smoker because of second hand smoke. Second hand smoke is when people around the smoker inhale some of the smoke. This can cause many problems for people who have asthma and other respiratory diseases. It would also effect people who are trying to quit smoking because they will want a cigarette after they breathe the second hand smoke. Personally, I would choose this issue because there are many people in my family that smoke and I would be very grateful if they would stop, so it would be good for me to focus on this issue so I can try to convince them to stop.

Journal - On Friday we discussed Public Service Announcements. In your own words tell me what they are and what their purpose is. If you could create a PSA what would your topic be? Why?

A Public Service Announcement is an advertisement given to the public to make an announcement, share your views or inform people.

If I were to create a Public Service Announcement, my topic would be about why you should go for a walk every day. I would like to
